At Denton Calvary Academy students in Kindergarten through 5th grades attend classes on Tuesday and Thursday and work at home under the direction of their parents on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

K-3rd grade parents should know that parents are responsible for teaching and monitoring the lessons provided by the classroom teacher on MWF. Parents can expect to spend an average of 4 hours on lessons on home days.

Parents of 4th & 5th grade students are responsible for some teaching on MWF,  but teachers will assign more independent work in these grades.  Parents are responsible for some teaching, monitoring, grading, and ensuring mastery of concepts.  Expect to spend an average of 4-6 hours on home days.

Elementary curriculum generally consists of (depending on grade level):

Language Arts:  BJU Grammar, All About Reading, All About Spelling, Institute for Excellence in Writing, handwriting, novels

Mathematics:  Bob Jones University

Science:  Bob Jones University

History: Story of the World

Parents will take extensive responsibility for direct instruction in some aspects of the course and for monitoring their child’s academic progress (including timely submission of all assignments). Parents will receive instructions from the classroom teacher on a weekly basis guiding the dependent and independent work completed at home.  Parents are responsible for follow-up study over covered material, and any preparation or review needed for their next class (including having all books and materials). The home study environment will need to be nurturing with limited distractions.
