    Requirements

    Parent and Student Responsibilities

    DCA is a University Model School®. Therefore, both parent involvement and student cooperation are essential for DCA to fulfill its mission. As a condition of acceptance into the school, parents of each student applying for admission must be in agreement with the school’s doctrinal position and understand the responsibilities included with admission to DCA.

    Parent Responsibilities:

    1. Parents must be in agreement with DCA’s Mission Statement, Statement of Faith, and Non-denominational Position.
    2. Parents must be active in a Christian church that is in keeping with DCA’s Statement of Faith.
    3. Parents must be willing to abide by DCA’s rules and regulations.
    4. Parents must be committed to the parental responsibility for providing a quality, Christian education for their children in accordance with existing law.
    5. Parents must be willing to actively participate in their child’s education. Specifically, parents should:
      1. make sure their child works diligently whenever the child is outside the classroom.
      2. monitor their child’s academic progress, including timely submission of all assignments.
      3. be willing to when necessary, take extensive responsibility for direct instruction in some aspects of their child’s courses.
      4. be willing to discuss with their child matters of belief, morality, and values as they arise in relation to the reading content of the course.
      5. monitor their child’s completion of all extended reading assignments to ensure that such assignments are paced appropriately and completed on schedule.
      6. assist their child, as may be necessary, in organizing his thoughts with regard to analytical and critical essays, since such essays often require a more involved thought process.
      7. provide their child with an audience before whom he might practice speeches and other similar presentations.
      8. assist their child, as may be appropriate, in gathering the needed research and study materials which may include transporting him or her to libraries outside of the academy.
      9. be willing to assist their child in locating scripture references needed for discussions, tests, or projects.
      10. be willing to assist their child by proofreading his written work.
      11. be thoroughly familiar with syllabi for all courses.
      12. have a working familiarity with course texts.
    6. Parents must actively participate in the school community. Specifically, parents should:
      1. attend necessary meetings.
      2. contribute to events and day to day operations of the school as needed (ex. Lunch monitor, carpool, extra-curricular activities, etc.).

    Student Responsibilities:

    1. Students must be active in a Christian church that is in keeping with DCA’s Statement of Faith.
    2. Students must be willing to abide by the Student Code of Conduct and all other school rules and regulations.
    3. Students must be willing to promptly communicate with their parents regarding assignments, grades, classroom instructions, co-curricular activities, extra-curricular activities, and other academy-related items.
    4. Students should show respect to adults at all times. A title (Mr., Mrs., Miss, or Coach) should be used when addressing an adult. The use of “yes/no sir/ma’am,” opening doors, carrying loads, and other ways of showing respect will be expected.
    5. Students should treat each other with respect, kindness, and compassion.
    6. Students should always come to class on time and be prepared (with homework completed and with necessary materials).
